The Secret of Kells is an Academy Award Nominee for Best Animated Feature, and I must say it deserves the title! Here's a bit about the movie, then I will tell you all what I loved about it!

The Academy Award-nominated family film, The Secret of Kells, a stunning, sweeping story about the power of imagination and faith came out on DVD and Blu-ray, October 5, 2010! This delightful and dazzling movie will have the whole family gathered together, mesmerized by the beauty on the screen and the powerful and uplifting plot.

In a remote medieval outpost of Ireland , young Brendan embarks on a new life of adventure when a celebrated master illuminator arrives from foreign lands carrying a book brimming with secret wisdom and powers. To help complete the magical book, Brendan has to overcome his deepest fears on a dangerous quest that takes him into the enchanted forest where mythical creatures hide. It is here that he meets the fairy Aisling, a mysterious young wolf-girl, who helps him along the way. But with the barbarians closing in, will Brendan’s determination and artistic vision illuminate the darkness against evil?

Hailed by critics and audiences alike as one of the most beautiful animated films of all time, The Secret of Kells (75 minutes) became the surprise nomination for Best Animated Feature at this year’s Academy Awards^® and received acclaim from The New York Times, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Variety and more. Now....being an artist myself, I was in love with the graphics. The line drawings and the way the background and foreground worked with each other. Truly beautiful art! I would love to grab some stills and print them out to hang on the wall.

My kiddos are still small with the oldest being 3. She loved watching the movie, but I think she will get the story a lot more when she older. So, for an older children crowd, and adults, this story has a great meaning. We really enjoyed this movie, and you can too!
